Why we Patented a Decentralized Technology

2key’s mission is to decentralize the web, and this is evidenced by 2key Protocol’s ability to make Ethereum more scalable and create Ethereum wallets to anyone without them needing a cryptocurrency or even knowing what blockchain technology is. We’ve made our technology compatible with Web 2.0 as it can bind smart contracts with today’s HTTP web links, but a simple interaction with a 2key link becomes the gateway to the decentralized web.

We made our protocol compatible with any browser that runs today (Chrome, Safari, Brave) and enabled smart contracts to run in the links that allow people to discover the web through these browsers. Using 2key solutions, anybody that has a browser can acquire an Ethereum wallet by simply clicking a link, without even knowing they’re interacting with a blockchain. 2key link interactors will be able to seamlessly segway into the decentralized web.

Our mission and decision to patent our technology may seem at odds, but there is a justifiable and understandable reasoning for our decision.

Synergy over Division

2key’s technology will be open source to ensure that its smart contract integrations can be validated as trustless and secure. However, talented communities tend to fork off. This leads to a lack of symbiosis between the core Protocol and the developers who want to utilize it; the product is countless forks that eventually cannot collaborate on the growth of the decentralized web.

Our patents are NOT here to stay.

The creation of the foundational support for a decentralized project is a gradual process. We do not aim to build a centralized foundation in which we hire developers who will be the key source of the 2key Protocol’s advancement. Rather, the early presence of patents will ensure that developers who want to utilize 2key Protocol build upon it rather than fork away. This decision will ensure that a decentralized network of developers buidl together and advance a Protocol through the synergy of their mutual talent and efforts, without needing a centralized authority to glue them together under one roof.

The patents will only last for enough time to ensure that the Protocol has acquired a sufficient base of developers. For the materialization of a Web 3.0, it is imperative that there are a few quality Protocols rather than countless forked protocols.
